Doc’s Locker
poem38
If one day I should pay the most costly price,
To be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice.
I would do so gladly to protect those I love,
To defend my country; the land of the brave.
My Mother would cry as they in solemn honor-
Hand her my flag; which was draped over my silent still coffin.
Folded neatly, three points facing out,
For honor, for courage, for commitment.
Guns will sound off; and the bugle will play,
As yet another Corpsman is laid to rest.
My fellow Marines and Docs will salute sharp and smart,
As from the heavens I sing “Eternal Father, Strong to Save”.
The same flag I fought to defend,
Flying proudly though I am gone.
Would grace more than just my coffin,
To remind all of what still must be done.
Tears will be shed for American’s have bled,
For the steadfast red, white, and blue.
From the Revolution to the War on Terrorism,
On the Altar of Freedom’s cause.
I am an American and a Patriot,
I am one of this Great Republic’s sons.
A brother in arms with the men and women,
Who have served before me and will after I am gone.
So I shall stand my watch and mark the time,
As the hours pass one by one.
For another day has gone by and I am proud to say,
America is still free.
